#65 The Liberation of Dachau, 1945
Poster caption: The full devastation of the Holocaust was revealed to the world as Allied troops advanced through Germany, Poland, and other Nazi-held countries. This map traces the route of the US Army’s 45th Infantry from Worms in March 1945 to the concentration camp at Dachau in April, and the end of the war in Europe in May. Among the horrors at Dachau, the American soldiers found the bodies of thousands of prisoners on an abandoned train as well as tens of thousands of survivors, starved and tortured, who were liberated into a changed world.
